The major governments in an effort not to be left out of the new space race released the technologies they had been suppressing for over fifty years. They partnered with the company that started the United Earth for Peace movement, and began planning to build the largest spacecraft ever to be built. Three years later on June 21, 2031, construction began on the Galactic Enterprise.

On a world polluted and filled with hate and intolerance, ravaged by war and famine, a handful of humanity would become mankind's last best hope for an uncertain future. In a spacecraft the size of a small city they stepped into the unknown to visit all the planets in our solar system.

At the turn of the decade in 2080 humanity broke the light-speed barrier and created a true stardrive. With that invention, humanity exploded into space.

The Galactic Enterprise was 65 years old and was the oldest manned spacecraft of any kind still in use. The debate began in 2096 over the cost of maintaining the aging spacecraft.  The politicians including the Starfighters to be mothballed as well as an archaic military unit who had outlived its usefulness. They said the Starfighters and the Galactic Enterprise sucked up millions of dollars each year just to stay in orbit.

Just before Christmas of 2099 a spacefaring race called the Kelgarons made contact. Our world celebrated their arrival as a great event in our history. We were looking forward to a really bright future, and then came their surprise attack on Christmas Eve. Balls of super hot plasma rained on every major city on the planet turning them into urban forest fires.

During the ensuing battle, the Galactic Enterprise miraculously managed to survive to launch her Starfighters, and Captain Candy Apple Stryker turned the space based weapons on the attackers, destroying all the ships in orbit.  The ship that was shooting at our cities on the Moon escaped.

The fear was that the Kelgarons could come back. Whatever our petty differences were around the planet were all rendered moot. After that we were forced to re-learn the art of war. We began to build our first fleet of spacecraft designed to fight a war in space even before we had finished burying our dead. They were the first warships built to protect the Earth from the Kelgarons. Five ships named for the first ship in the series, Dawn Star. The other Stars were the Morning Star, the Evening Star, the Dark Star, and the Rising Star. It would be the last of the line and even more deadly than her sister ships, but nothing was more deadly than her last captain.
